SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden is a leading international research institute. We work closely with our customers to create value, delivering high-quality input in all parts of the innovation chain, and thus playing an important part in assisting the competitiveness of industry and its evolution towards sustainable development.   

Organization

The SP Group consists of eight companies including the parent company SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden AB. The Swedish state is via Rise Holding AB the sole owner of the SP Group. The work within the parent company is organised into nine technical departments: SP Building Technology and Mechanics, SP Calibration and Verifikation, SP Certification, SP Chemistry, Materials and Surfaces, SP Electronics, SP Energy Technology, SP Fire Technology, SP Measurement Technology, SP Wood Technology. There is also an administrative department. The company's headquarters are in Borås. 

Subsidiary companies: Subsidiary CBI Betonginstitutet AB, 60 % of the shares acquired in 2008. It performs scientific/technical research and development in the concrete area. Subsidiary Glafo AB – Glasforskningsinstitutet, is based in Växjö, 60 % of the shares acquired in 2008. It provides glass research, development, education and technical support. Subsidiary JTI - Swedish Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, is based in Uppsala, 60 % of the shares acquired in 2009. JYI is an industrial research institute engaged in research, development and information in the areas of agricultural engineering and environmental technology. Subsidiary SIK – Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology, based in Gothenburg, was acquired in 2004. It performs scientific/technical research and development in the fields of foodstuffs and biotechnology. Subsidiary SMP Svensk Maskinprovning AB, based in Uppsala, performs testing, certification and inspection of products, machines and vehicles.

Sustainability and CSR

Sustainable development involves economic, environmental and social impact. SP contributes to sustainable development by developing new expertise and dependable technical decision criteria for use in the business sector and society. This is done through short assignments and in far-reaching multi-year projects which affect the structure of society and the living environment. As from financial year 2008, in accordance with the guidelines for state-owned companies, we will be adopting sustainability reporting in line with the GRI (Global Report Initiative).
