Sobre el empleador

The main aim of Karlstad University is to provide broad-based, multidisciplinary programmes for students in Sweden and visiting students from abroad, while developing strong areas of research.

The University is located on one campus offering a modern and stimulating environment. The architecturally inspiring library lies at the heart of the campus providing a much appreciated study environment for about 16,000 students. In 2009, a new exciting building, Vänern, was inaugurated which reflects our high ambitions for education and research. The University also has a campus in Arvika, about 80 km from Karlstad, where the Ingesund School of Music with its 300 students is located.

Karlstad University offers approximately 40 Bachelor’s degree programmes, 30 Master’s level degree programmes and 900 courses in the humanities and fine arts, social and economic sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technology, health care and teacher training. At present, several master programmes and more than 100 courses are offered in English. Our programmes combine the wishes of the students with the requirements of the labour market.

In 1999, when the former Karlstad University College received university status, doctoral programmes were introduced. Today, doctoral degrees are awarded in as many as 27 disciplines. Further the University has an extensive e-learning programme with about 25 percent of the total number of students choosing to study via the internet, for example.

While at the University most of our students have regular contacts with prospective employers, via a mentor or a company that is involved in their study programme. After they have completed their studies, the alumni organisation provides them with good opportunities to network with other professionals and maintain contact with fellow students.

Research has grown rapidly in recent years. To meet future demands for sustainable development, much research at the university is multidisciplinary, and the ambition is to further develop its leading research fields, notably communication and services, pulp, paper and surface treatment, printing technology, packaging, the environment, tool materials, education, working life science, tourism and leisure, and gender relations.

External relations

Cooperating with companies, authorities and organisations is a major task for the University. This cooperation is of mutual benefit and is part of the exchange of knowledge and experience that enriches both education and research. Through open dialogue Karlstad University also contributes to regional development and at the same time is the region’s link with the international academic community. We help to ensure that innovations are disseminated in the community and that research results become commercial successes. Our goal is clear – to become one of the best universities in Europe with regard to external cooperation.
