The European University of Flensburg

As the northernmost university in Germany, the European University of Flensburg is a young university, having originally been the "College of Education" (1946-1994). With approximately 5,000 students and 400 employees it is one of the smaller universities in Germany. Its green campus on the Flensburg fjord is located in direct proximity to the Kingdom of Denmark, in the heart of a maritime region.

Range of subjects and courses

Subjects and courses offered at the European University of Flensburg include humanities and theologies, art, textiles and music, educational sciences, school education, special education, mathematics, natural sciences, technology, general studies, health and nutrition, language, culture and media studies, European studies, sports science, economic and social sciences.

The main focus is on teacher training and international management.

Europe and internationalization

On 30th June 2014 the University of Flensburg was officially proclaimed "European University of Flensburg". The title "European University" reflects both the specific location of the university in the German-Danish border region as well as the University's aspiration to train and educate a generation who understands, "lives" and actively develops Europe.

In accordance with its expertise, the main focus in the area of teacher training is on educational sciences. This focus is unique for a European University. It provides the opportunity to communicate European ideas directly to a new generation who can then disseminate these ideas to a wider audience

The European University of Flensburg is pursuing a longer-term international orientation currently cooperating with more than 80 partner universities in 34 countries.

Main areas of academic research and teaching

Academic research at the European University of Flensburg focuses on education, economics, environmental sciences/sustainable development and interdisciplinary European studies. In academic research the subject areas of justice, sustainability and diversity are interconnected. Academic research and teaching is characterized by inter cultural and international comparative perspectives, a high degree of inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation and a strong link between theory and practice. A special feature is the close cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg, based on the same campus, in various subjects including energy and environmental management, SME research and media sciences

The European University of Flensburg, a "reform university" on the Baltic Sea that wants to open up new horizons and to find answers to central future issues.
