The Research Institute of Horticulture and Seeds was created in Angers in January 2012, under the auspices of INRA, AGROCAMPUS OUEST and the University of Angers. Located in the heart of a major European horticultural and seed production basin in the region « Pays de la Loire », the institute reunites the mains forces in Plant Biology in this region, being part of the SFR QUASAV. This large laboratory of 230 members, including 170 permanent staff, develops research projects dealing with the quality and health of horticultural crops. It is organized in three research divisions working respectively on : « roses and other ornamentals », « pome-fruits and legumes », « seeds en associated pathogens ». These divisions are designed to develop integrated approaches by coordinating the efforts and expertise of geneticists, breeders, plant pathologists, physiologists, biochemists, eco-physiologists, modelers and statisticians. The RIHS is a member of the competitiveness cluster 'Végépolys', which brings together companies, research laboratories and institutions of higher education, in Loire Valley, joining their forces in innovative projects to enhance the competitiveness of its actors.
