WATER includes 12 highly recognized universities, 2 research institutes, 3 large companies, 1 medium-sized company and 3 start-ups. The project exploits the interdisciplinary and intersectoral opportunities envisaged by the partners by bringing together researchers with distinct scientific backgrounds. The common goal uniting the partners is to provide training in the role of water transport and hydration dynamics to address unmet medical needs in all most deadly diseases. To meet such goal, WATER brings together world-class theoreticians, experimentalists and computational scientists to provide training in biophysics, molecular biology, medicinal and organic chemistry, structural and synthetic biology, advanced microscopy and computer science. Combining ‘wet-lab’ and ‘dry-lab’ research, this project ranges from theoretical understanding to methodology development and applied drug discovery. We know of no other network of researchers/industry with such complementary expertise available.
