available immediately. The position will be filled on a salaried basis unless the person to be appointed already is a civil servant. 

The professorship is linked with the medical directorship for medical microbiology and medical virology and carries the responsibility for clinical diagnostics. Current clinical focuses include infection diagnostics, genome and metagenome analysis of microbes, environmental and hospital hygiene with infection epidemiology and outbreak analysis as well as human pathogenic viral infections. Further development of topics and focal points is desired. 

The scientific focus of the professorship should be in the field of microbiology or virology. An integrative concept that enables the further development of both areas is required. Both research areas are currently already represented by a total of five research W3-professorships. 

The successful candidate should be internationally recognized in their area of specialization through competitive, innovative research, corresponding high-ranking publications and extensive third-party funding. 

The successful candidate will represent their specialisation area in research, teaching and patient care both scientifically, clinically as well as economically.

Willingness and commitment to help shape the focus area infection medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, as well as active participation in current and planned research networks at the University of Tübingen, in particular the DZIF (German Center for Infection Research) Tübingen site, the Cluster of Excellence CMFI (Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections) and the M3 Research Center (Malignoma, Metabolome and Microbiome), are required.

Furthermore, the successful candidate should have several years of proven management and leadership experience, particularly in the context of clinical structures.

In the area of teaching, extensive and outstandingly evaluated teaching experience and commitment are expected, especially with regard to innovative curricula of the study programs of the Faculty of Medicine as well as active participation in the design of lectures and other teaching formats under consideration of modern teaching methods. The teaching obligation is 9 hours per week during the semester.

Prerequisites for employment are a board certification in microbiology, virology and infection epidemiology or a qualification recognized as equivalent acquired abroad, as well as postdoctoral qualifications and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship.
