The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Senior Researcher in Computational Microscopy position at the Department of Physics and Mathematics on the Joensuu campus. The position will be filled for a fixed term as from 1 September 2025, or as agreed, until 31 August 2030.

Role and salary
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Researcher to advance computational and experimental methods for multimodal bioimaging and biosensing within the COMET (Computational Imaging and Modelling in Medical Technologies) PROFI8 project. This position is part of the Research Group (link), led by Professor Polina Kuzhir at the Centre for Photonics Sciences (link) and the Department of Physics and Mathematics (link).
The role involves contributing to the development of computational microscopy, a field that combines imaging technologies with data analysis and modelling to explore complex biological systems in greater detail. This position includes, but is not limited to, enhancing imaging capabilities, integrating diverse data sources, and applying advanced computational approaches to improve visualization and interpretation.
The work supports a broad range of applications in biomedical research and diagnostics, with the opportunity to shape innovative methods and tools. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of what can be seen and understood in biological imaging and sensing.
The position will be filled from 1 September 2025 (or as agreed) to 31 August 2030. The position will be filled for a fixed term due to tasks in the Research Council of Finland’s strategic PROFI8/COMET project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system for Finnish universities. The salary comprises two elements: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is EUR 3,745–4,320 /month, based on levels 6–7 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. The personal salary element can be a maximum of 50% of the above-mentioned sum. The salary of the Senior Researcher will be approximately EUR 4,350–5,015 /month at the beginning of the employment.
