Located in the historic center of the City of Namur, capital of Wallonia, the University of Namur combines tradition and innovation to offer high-quality, human-centered teaching and cutting-edge research. The selected candidate will primarily join the UNamur School of Social Sciences, Politics and Communication. The School's academic and research staff contribute to undergraduate education and organize doctoral programs in information and communication sciences and political science. They also play an active role in the scientific development of the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) and Transitions research institutes. Interdisciplinary research is a key focus, particularly within the Research Center on Information, Law, and Society (CRIDS/NaDI), where topics integrating law, media studies, philosophy, sociology, and other fields are explored. Faculty members also collaborate with businesses, organizations, and public institutions—both national and international—through project-based courses, internships, seminars, and scientific missions
Job description
The activities associated with the position are equally divided between teaching and research. The teaching responsibilities include supervision and participation in grading exams for the Foundations of Law course in the first year of the Faculty EMCP. Doctoral research will be conducted in the field of law within the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) or Transitions research institutes, with an interdisciplinary dimension considered an asset. The candidate may, for example, frame their doctoral research within one of the following three areas:
• Law, data, and media: the use of personal data and data literacy, the question of truth and information critique (notably in the era of generative AI), digital citizenship, governance models of online communities, etc.;
• Regulation of digital platforms;
• Institutions and governance of the European Union.
Tasks
The selected candidate will be required to:
• Supervise law courses in the Bachelor's programs in Economics and Management, Business Engineering, Political Science, and Information and Communication (including practical sessions and assistance with exam grading);
• Conduct legal research (an interdisciplinary component will be an asset) and contribute to the Namur Digital Institute (NaDI) or Transitions;
• Actively participate in service missions within the institution and the community.
Requirement
The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Law with honors by the end of September 2025. The candidate must be fluent in French and have a good command of English. They should demonstrate excellent teaching skills and a strong interest in scientific research. An interest in interdisciplinary research is an asset. The candidate must commit to developing an original research program that could lead to a PhD in Law, under the supervision of a member of the UNamur School of Social Sciences, Politics and Communication and/or a member of the Faculty of Law.
