No. 08151 | Posting period:
July 6 to August 5, 2026, 5 p.m.

Université de Sherbrooke is proud to participate in the 2026 competition of the Impact+ Canada Research Chairs Program. This is an initiative of the Government of Canada, which is investing $120 million to promote the recruitment of internationally based early-career researchers (ECRs) to Canada.

As part of this call for applications, the University of Sherbrooke is seeking new candidates from the international scientific community to recruit a new professor. This is a tenure-track position in the Faculty of Engineering.

Only candidates who, as of July 5, 2026, are internationally based (working and residing outside Canada) are eligible.

This position aligns with the strategic priority area of Environment, Climate Resilience and the Arctic. The candidate should develop passive and low-carbon solutions for retrofitted and new buildings, at building and urban scales. This includes, in particular, energy-efficient and innovative HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, as well as adaptive approaches taking into account interactions with energy systems such as utility grids and district loops. Their research will contribute to create a more resilient and salutogenic built environment in the face of climate change risks.

Renowned for its innovations in teaching, research excellence, and credibility with the industry, the Faculty of Engineering has earned a prominent place among major Canadian institutions. It is also recognized for the scale of its major design projects carried out by multidisciplinary engineering teams. The Faculty offers eighteen degree programs across all three cycles, including two new bachelor’s degrees in robotics engineering and building engineering.

The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders Program provides funding of $100,000 per year for six years, with the possibility of a six-year extension at the same annual amount. The extension of funding will be contingent upon confirmation by the granting program that the individual recruited as an Emerging Leader has progressed in their academic career. The Emerging Leader must also demonstrate that the research conducted since their recruitment has been transformative and translational, and has enabled the engagement of partners.

Successful candidate will be required to take up a full-time position at Université de Sherbrooke no later than July 1, 2027.

DESIRED PROFILE

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to advance ambitious and transformative projects in Canada’s strategic priorities, build and support exceptional research teams, and collaborate with partners across sectors and countries. They should foster the transformation of discoveries into tangible applications and marketable products that benefit Canada and the world socially and economically, while training the next generation of highly qualified personnel.

Candidates should have a strong interest in working in a multidisciplinary environment and be able to develop research partnerships with public and private sector actors in a priority area.

Selection will be based on the objectives of the Canada Impact+ Research Chairs Program and the following criteria:

  • Attract world-leading researchers, or those on a trajectory to become so, to strengthen Canada’s global competitiveness and innovation leadership;
  • Transform bold discoveries into innovative products, ideas, policies and solutions that benefit Canadians and the world;
  • Help Canada grow and sustain a critical mass of expertise in priority areas identified by the Government of Canada through the development of high-impact research teams;
  • Incentivize strategic partnerships across sectors, such as industry, health systems, government and not-for-profit organizations, to accelerate translation of research into practice and enhance long-term adoption and impact.

CAREER INTERRUPTIONS

In line with equity and diversity objectives, career interruptions due to parental, medical, or family leave, or the pandemic, will be considered during evaluation. Candidates are strongly encouraged to clearly identify such periods in their CV or cover letter.
