The Faculty of Environmental Design, founded in 1968, houses three schools: Architecture, Design and Urbanism and Landscape Architecture, with the mission to develop knowledge and train highly qualified talents, who will contribute to the evolution, research and innovation of environmental design practices. The Faculty offers an average of twenty research groups and 23 educational programs, all dedicated to the study of human-environment interactions and intervention in the built and natural environment.
Committed to a disciplinary and professional approach, the School of Architecture contributes to research and education for quality, sustainable and inclusive architecture, both locally and internationally. It is one of twelve schools in Canada accredited by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board. As a professor you can contribute to this mission through teaching and research in architecture and construction.
Your day-to-day responsibilities
Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, you will:
- Teach lectures, studiosand seminars for the Bachelor, Masters and PhD programs in Architecture, particularly in the field of construction;
- Develop an independent and a high-level research program on construction;
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
- Actively participate in the development of the discipline through conferences, publications and scientific activities, as well as in the administration of the Faculty;
- Participate actively in the academic life, functioning and development of the School, Faculty and institution through contributions to committees and working groups.
The successful candidate's professional profile encompasses the following
- Hold a doctorate (Ph.D.) related to the field of architecture. Candidates who have submitted or are in the process of submitting their thesis will also be considered;
- Hold a professional degree in architecture;
- Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality academic teaching, particularly building construction and design studio teaching;
- Demonstrate a high level of knowledge in building science and techniques, building processes and standards, as well as architectural detailing, applicable to the North American context;
- Knowledge of sustainable development, integrated design processes, performance analysis and recognition of excellence (awards, grants, etc.) are assets;
- Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.

- A curriculum vitae, accompanied by a copy of your diplomas;
- A statement of your teaching and mentoring philosophy (maximum one page);
- A research program statement (maximum two pages);
- A copy of three recent publications or research papers (maximum of three documents);
- A teaching dossier including student work carried out under your supervision (maximum fifty pages), and if applicable, a portfolio of significant professional work (maximum ten pages);
- At least three letters of reference sent directly by the author to the Direction.
