At the Institute of Biomedical Electronics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, TU Wien a tenure track position in the field of Computational Bioelectronics is to be filled as of October 2025 (40 hours per week / full time).

The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement).

Duties include research and teaching in the field of Computational Bioelectronics.

Tasks:

Research:

  • Characterization and validation of neuroelectronic systems, including measurement of response behavior of neurons during external stimulation
  • Development and implementation of measurement and analysis methods for single-cell signals based on patch-clamp technology with sensitivities in the picoampere range
  • Design and development of numerical models (finite element method) for the simulation of electromagnetic fields in biological tissue
  • Design and optimization of simulations of (electrogenic) cells for applications in biomedical diagnostics, using microelectrode arrays, noise measurements or impedance spectroscopy

 Teaching:

  • Compulsory and elective courses (lectures, tutorials, laboratories) in basic electrical engineering, and biomedical and neural engineering, emphasizing computer-based methods
  • Supervision and Co-Supervision of student research projects (Bachelor, Master and PhD theses)

 Administration:

  • Assumption of general tasks in the administration of the Institute of Biomedical Electronics
  • Involvement in university committees
  • Establishment and management of an own research group
  • Acquisition of third-party funds through research projects

Your profile:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with doctorate appropriate to the position
  • Excellent German and English language skills
  • Proven expertise in the design, development and optimization of numerical methods (finite elements) and models in bioelectronic systems
  • Comprehensive expertise in the development and characterization of neuroelectronic systems in sensor and actuator technology, preferentially with patch-clamp methods
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
  • Junior scientist with a doctorate completed within the past 10 years
  • Relevant experience in academic teaching and in the supervision and co-supervision of academic final theses
  • Experience with the design and implementation of research projects and the willingness and the ability to manage a research group
  • Comprehensive experience with successfully securing external funding
  • Experience abroad in the context of research stays is desirable
  • Leadership and social competence, including gender and diversity competence

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 4,932.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,808.20 gross (14 x per year).We look forward to receiving your application until June 05th, 2025.
