Senior Scientist – Technical Lead for Magnetic Thin Films, Spintronic Applications and Magnetic MEMS (f/m/d)

YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead efforts in applied research on magnetic thin films and spintronic applications aiming for novel device innovations and industrial process developments with 200-300 mm pilot line capabilities
  • Actively form the R&D roadmap of the research unit on spintronic and MEMS devices, and integrate it into the unit strategy together with the Research Unit Head
  • Guide inter-unit collaboration with the Thin Films Technology group for magnetic thin-film developments
  • Participate in building up relevant infrastructure in the cleanroom and the magnetic lab
  • Develope towards building, guiding and technically supervising a team of experienced researchers focusing on magnetic thin film, spintronic and MEMS devices
  • Initialize and manage large projects and cooperations with the industry as well as national and international funding program participations (HE, FFG, Chips JU, ...)
  • Networking and acquisition of international partners from industry and academia, dissemination of results at respected conferences and in high-level journals
  • Participate in the daily project work which can include microfabrication, simulation, measurements, meetings with project partners, documentation, scientific article writing, or administrative work.

YOUR PROFILE

  • A distinguished record of at least 10 years of research, innovation and leadership in the area of micro-nano magnetic materials and spintronic systems
  • Strong practical expertise in developing magnetic material microfabrication processes, ideally for industrial applications on 200-300 mm wafers, design, fabrication and characterization of magnetic materials and spintronics-based technologies
  • Experience in project management of research projects with multiple partners
  • Experience with supervision of a small group of experienced researchers and engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire funding, ideally beyond academic research programs, and to collaborate with the industry
  • Strong scientific track record evidenced by peer-reviewed journal publications and invited talks at international conferences
  • Detailed knowledge of the worldwide market and European industrial ecosystem in the areas of spintronics and magnetic microsystems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, German is a plus
  • Genuine interest in applied research, industrial applications, and scientific progress

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group F (F1 salary = EUR 4.594,- paid 14 times a year) based on 38,5 hours per week). For this position we offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications, starting with a minimum gross salary of EUR 70.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract and bonus).
