Job Description:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher specialized in the modeling and optimization of waste management systems. The successful candidate will work on innovative solutions that integrate advanced technologies, urban data, and sustainable approaches to enhance the performance of waste management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Mathematical Modeling: Develop mathematical models to simulate and optimize the entire waste management chain—from collection to treatment.
Data Integration and Analysis: Integrate real-time and historical data to assess the performance of existing systems.
Innovative Solutions: Propose creative strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
Scientific Communication: Contribute to scientific publications and foster academic and industrial collaborations.
Decision-Support Tools: Develop tools to assist public and private managers in making informed decisions regarding waste management.
Required Qualifications :
Doctorate: A PhD in Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Data Science, or a related field.
Modeling Expertise: Proven experience in designing mathematical models to analyze and optimize waste flows.
Optimization Techniques: Familiarity with advanced optimization techniques, including linear, non-linear, multi-objective, or stochastic optimization.
Simulation Tools: Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., AnyLogic, SimPy, MATLAB/Simulink) to replicate waste management systems.
Waste Management Processes: In-depth understanding of waste collection, sorting, recycling, recovery, and disposal processes and infrastructures.
Specific Waste Streams: Knowledge of specific waste streams (organic, electronic, hazardous, etc.).
IoT Technologies: Experience with IoT technologies (smart sensors, connected devices) for real-time monitoring of waste systems.
Circular Economy: Familiarity with circular economy principles as applied to waste management.
Environmental Impact: Ability to analyze the environmental and climatic impacts of waste management systems.
Personal and Organizational Qualities:
Strong ability to model complex systems and propose optimal solutions.
Skill in translating complex data into actionable insights for research and decision-making.
Proven capacity to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, including urban planners, technologists, and environmental experts.
A track record of producing high-level publications and presenting research at international conferences.
Ambition for research excellence and a keen interest in addressing African challenges.
Entrepreneurial spirit, dynamism, and strong organizational skills.
Excellent command of both French and English, in both written and spoken forms.
