Responsibilities
The Movion research group is looking for a research expert in the field of molecular virology, to lead research projects involving large-scale genetic screens to identify novel virus-host interactions, with the aim to discover novel (panviral) intervention strategies that could be applied to multiple virus families. The research expert will be responsible for managing the fundamental research on virus-host cell interactions and potential future translational research lines. In cooperation with the PI they will manage technicians and will mentor PhD students working on this topic. The research expert will also closely collaborate with other postdoctoral researchers and PhD students from the research group and will manage collaborations with other laboratories within and outside the KU Leuven.
- Perform high-quality basic and translational research in the field of virus-host cell interactions
- Write and publish high-impact scientific articles on the obtained results as well as review articles
- Stay up-to-date on the research field and on the state-of-the-art genetic screening technology required to successfully fulfill the research activities
- Present the research on (international) meetings/conferences and set up new collaborations
- Introduce and/or develop new assays to support the research
- Identify grant opportunities and assist in grant writing to ensure continuation of research activities
- Initiate and set up interactions and research activities with different (international) researchers or research groups with relevant expertise to ensure the success of the research activities
- Help to initiate, acquire and/or manage (international) collaborations with industrial partners
- Help to identify, train and co-supervise highly competent staff (technicians and PhD students) to ensure highest-quality research
Profile
- PhD in molecular virology or equivalent research area, with a minimum of 5 years post-doc experience. Ideally, also at least 3 years of work experience abroad
- A broad knowledge and experience in the fields of virology, virus-host interactions, genetic screening, CRISPR technology, and NGS data analysis.
- Demonstrable publication writing skills, with a minimum of 5 papers as first author in high-impact journals
- Able to critically identify and evaluate new research opportunities
- Demonstrable project writing skills; having written successful grant applications
