Job description

This project will develop materials and methods for additive manufacturing  (3D printing), of advanced electronic microrobots. These 3D printed systems are based on a nanocomposite hydrogel material which can integrate electronic actuators, sensors, and interconnects into a seamless 3D structure, enabling a new generation of fully organic intelligent system. The hydrogels are based on composite materials containing water-based nanowires like nanocellulose combined with electronic materials ranging from conducting polymers to carbon nanotubes and 2D MXenes.
In the most visionary aspect of this project the printed robotic actuators could function inside of a living body.

The project has three specific aims:
1) To develop new materials which can be 3D printed forming a new class of electronic hydrogels materials.
2) To develop printing strategies for fabricating actuators/muscles using these hydrogel materials

3) To develop fully integrated systems, seamlessly integrating many actuators and other functions into a 3D microstructure.
