The Sten Linnarsson lab is a part of Unit of Molecular Neurobiology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB). Linnarsson lab has an outstanding track-record in performing world-leading research on brain and brain development using single cell technologies. The current focus of the lab is to improve understanding of the most common and deadly brain tumor – glioblastoma (GBM), and to inform the development of new treatment targets.

Your mission

We are looking for a research assistant who will be working together with an experienced postdoc in human immunology as well as PhD students, postdocs and research nurses to investigate the phenotype, location, and function of immune cells in cancer and inflammatory conditions affecting brain in adults and in children. A full-time position is available for 12 months. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to strengthen her/his current experimental skills as well as learn new cutting-edge techniques. Experimental duties will include the isolation and functional characterisation of immune cells in human brain samples. More specifically, the project focus on human immunology and mononuclear phagocytes, such as monocytes, dendritic cells, and macrophages, as well as other immune cells, in brain microenvironment, with focus on cancer. We are looking for a highly motivated and well-organized person with excellent communication skills and ability to interact with collaborators, as well as solid skills and experience in immunostainings, flow cytometry, and cryo-sectioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Isolation and storage/biobanking of cells from fresh human blood and brain tissues, advanced flow cytometry and high-content imaging.
  • Optimization of an ex vivo culture system for healthy or tumor-infiltrating human immune cells.

Your profile

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Medical or Biomedical Science, Immunology or equivalent when the position starts
  • Experience in cell isolation from human blood or tissues
  • Previous experience with multiparametric flow cytometry/cell sorting and immunostainings (cryo-sectioning)
  • Capacity to fluently speak and write in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and references from previous work environments.

  • Experience in working with human immune cells
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Skills in computational data analyses
