The SCP Facility is a further development of Proteomics Biomedicum (PB), a very well equipped academic proteomics core facility, supported by the Infrastructure Board of KI. Since single cell analysis emerged as an extremely exciting area of research in molecular biology and medicine, the SCP facility mission is to support this research by providing KI and other Swedish universities with the most advanced SCP techniques, in close cooperation with and initial guidance of the Chemical Proteomics (ChemProt) facility. The SCP facility will operate the latest-generation mass spectrometry equipment, including Orbitrap Astral (Thermo). Scientific supervisor of both the ChemProt and SCP facilities is Prof. Roman A. Zubarev.

The SCP Facility will be involved in a variety of national and international projects and technology developing initiatives. Besides the project manager, its staff will include a technician. SCP method development efforts will be aided by a postdoc.

Your mission

The position implies holding the facility at the SCP state of the art, following the latest SCP developments and implementing them for service tasks. In particular, the job is to implement the advanced Chemical proteomics techniques to single cell analysis. Furthermore, the responsibility of the project manager is daily supervision of all aspects of the SCP Facility functioning. You will also be responsible for managing staff, maintaining equipment, developing and following SOPs, developing and maintaining customer connections, advertising the SCP service in scientific community, participating in planning and running the projects, and disseminating the SCP results.

The future of the SCP Facility will be significantly influenced by the professional contribution of the applicant. The successful candidate will be involved in important biomedical projects. You will also be involved in training activities, including giving courses for the customers, as well as supervision of visiting students and postdocs. Own research in SCP technological developments in will be required. Applying for own research grants, supervision of postdocs and co-supervision of students will be encouraged.

Your profile

A personality that is both research- and service-oriented as well as a high social competence are very important qualifications. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Chemistry or Biology, experience in mass spectrometry and proteomics, preferably in SCP, as well as excellent understanding of the technology involved, including liquid chromatography, high-resolution mass spectrometry, bioinformatics and related software. The ability to program for customized data analysis, preferably in R, is a must.

Organisational, managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills are of utmost importance. The ideal applicant must have a strong motivation and excellent work ethics. The ability to effectively interact with the research and technical staff within the group as well as external researchers in a team-oriented manner is a must. 

Advanced knowledge of English is essential as this is the working language, but operational knowledge of Swedish will be required within a year.
