Responsibilities

Are you interested in experimental laboratory work and researching the behavior of innovative materials? Do you enjoy analyzing complex data, developing new methods, and contributing to sustainable cementitious binder systems? This PhD position offers you the opportunity to help shape the future of building materials science within an interdisciplinary research team and in close collaboration with major industry partners at Graz University of Technology. Your main tasks will include:

  • Development of a new generation of carbon-negative, but reactive supplementary cementitious materials; their chemical and mineralogical characterization and the formulation and analysis of sustainable binder systems
  • Active laboratory work in cement and analytical laboratories
  • Design and execution of tests; validation and analysis of the experimental campaign results
  • Collaboration on the preparation of reports and presentations of project results for partners in industry
  • Scientific publications and international conference presentations
  • Writing a dissertation

Admission Requirements

  • Completed Master’s or Diploma studies in the field of material science, (in)organic chemistry, civil engineering or applied geoscience or similar
  • Excellent spoken and written English

Desired Qualification

  • Working knowledge of German is desirable
  • Motivation and interest in scientific working and writing a PhD thesis
  • Cooperation in a multidisciplinary team
  • Interest in laboratory working

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 52,865.40 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.

Organisational Unit

The institute's teaching activities cover the entire field of building materials for building construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure construction. In terms of research, the institute specializes in the fields of mineral construction materials and circular economy, sustainable construction chemistry, as well as non-destructive testing (NDT) and continuous monitoring.

The technical testing and research institute affiliated with the institute acts as an accredited testing, inspection, and certification body for building materials in the following areas: mineral building materials such as aggregates, mortar, and concrete; steel; bituminous building materials; construction chemicals; and monitoring of factory production control.
