YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the field of coastal structures, with a focus on::
    • development, acquisition and execution of contracts for research and services;
    • nature-based solutions, including but not limited to reef systems;
    • storm surges, nearshore waves, coastal hydrodynamics, and climate change impact;
    • design and development of laboratory wave flume and numerical research;
    • development and execution of measurement techniques for field investigation.
  • You will assist in teaching activities at the Master’s level.
  • You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
  • You will counsel doctoral students and fellow researchers in the framework of running research projects.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or Coastal Engineering or you hold an equivalent degree. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
  • You have already conducted research within the field of coastal defense, nature-based solutions, storm surges and reef systems and you have experience in wave modelling, wave flume physically modelling, and field investigations.
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes.
  • You have interest or experience in working as part of multidisciplinary research teams, and you are able to communicate research findings to different audience groups in that context.
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated. Contributions at and experience with the organization of scientific conferences would be an advantage.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a temporary appointment for a period of 3 years. The appointment cannot be renewed.
  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to 3 years, you can apply. The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term.
  • Your appointment will start on 1 June 2025 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP5. More information about our salary scales.
