We are looking for a postdoc to join our team at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Become part of our innovative group and contribute to exciting research in electrocatalysis within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

About us

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering pushes the knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering forward in a broad field of research and education. We offer an international environment, with scientific areas ranging from fundamental chemistry, health and medical technology, materials science, renewable energy, to chemical engineering processing, material recycling, nuclear chemistry, theory and modelling.

You will join the Luneau Lab which focuses on designing and investigating new catalytic materials and new catalytic reactors for sustainable reactions, with the overall goal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions originating from the production of energy carriers and chemicals.

About the research project

The goal of your project is to design novel electrocatalysts for applications in CO2 electroreduction and hydrogen fuel cells.

You will synthesize catalytic materials consisting of highly ordered single atom catalysts and dilute alloys. You will characterize the catalysts and will have access to a wide range of advanced characterization techniques available at the department and at the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL). You will also carry out in situ characterization of the materials at synchrotron facilities.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree in chemistry or materials science with expertise in electrocatalysis, or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently, as a part of a collaborative research group, to take initiative and be creative.
  • Experience with common characterization techniques used in the field of catalysis.
  • Experience with inorganic synthesis.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree has been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience with preparation and testing of single atom catalysts.
  • Experience with electrocatalytic tests in CO2 electrolyzers.
  • Experience with in situ characterization techniques (XAS, IR, Raman).

What you will do

  • Synthesize novel electrocatalysts and carry out electrocatalytic tests in CO2 electrolyzers and/or rotating disk electrode setups.
  • Supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent.
  • Communicate your results regularly in written and oral forms at internal and external meetings and conferences.

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.

What we offer

Application procedure

The application should be written in English be attached as PDF-files, as below. Maximum size for each file is 40 MB. Please note that the system does not support Zip files.

CV

  • A comprehensive CV, including a complete list of publications.
  • The contact details of 2 references.
  • Details of previous teaching and pedagogical experience.

Personal letter

  • A brief introduction about yourself and your motivation to join our team.
  • A summary of your previous research fields and key research outcomes.
  • An outline of your future goals and research focus.
