Within the University, the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is a highly interdisciplinary research centre (IC), integrating experimental biology and computational biology approaches in order to develop the foundation of a future predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.

Your Role...

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in the RareCom project entitled: “From rare to common disease: Use of ATP13A2-deficient iPSC-based models for drug discovery in Parkinson’s disease”.The aim of this FNR-funded project is to investigate the role of the lysosomal protein ATP13A2 in the context of neurodegeneration. Patient-derived cellular models will be used to uncover disease mechanisms and to uncover novel therapeutic candidates.

Your tasks/mission:

  • Generation/maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells and subsequent differentiation into dopaminergic neurons
  • Design and application of experiments to assess the impact of mutations in ATP13A2 on lysosomal, mitochondrial and neuronal function
  • Student supervision

What we expect from you…

  • PhD in Cellular Biology, Neuroscience, or related discipline
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary research and cellular models of neurodegeneration
  • Track record in research and laboratory work as documented by publications in internationally acknowledged journals
  • Profound knowledge of molecular genetics, biochemistry and cell biology
  • Expertise with induced pluripotent stem cell models (particularly neurons)
  • Previous experience with high-throughput imaging and automated image analysis is desirable
  • Excellent communication, team-working and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience as supervisor of students
  • Enthusiasm and great commitment to research
  • Very good command of the English language

The yearly gross salary for every Postdoctoral Researcher at the UL is EUR 77167 (full time)
