The Department of Chemistry is seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of Senior Lecturer in Physical Chemistry, starting on January 2, 2025, or as agreed, on a permanent basis.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled senior lecturer in physical chemistry. In this role, you will be responsible for teaching physical chemistry laboratories at both basic and advanced levels, delivering lectures, supervising theses, and helping to plan and develop teaching materials. The position also includes continuous development of teaching practices and participation in department duties. Laboratory work in physical chemistry focuses on optical spectroscopy, computational chemistry, and electrochemistry, so the selected candidate is expected to have sufficient expertise in these areas.
The senior lecturer is also expected to conduct high-level, internationally recognized research that aligns with the department's research profile. The research may be conducted either within your own research group or as part of an existing one.
The applicant must have experience and a proven track record in chemistry teaching and high-quality international research. Pedagogical training and experience in laboratory teaching and/or other physical chemistry teaching are advantageous. Demonstrated experience in teaching development and the use of modern educational technologies will also be considered beneficial.
The duties and qualification requirements of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Good proficiency in English and the ability to teach in English will be considered an advantage. The primary language of instruction is Finnish but English is also used.

The salary for a senior lecturer is determined based on the task-specific demand level 6–7 of the university salary system for teaching staff. The annual salary range will be 51,000 - 65,000 EUR (gross income, including a holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
A six-month trial period will apply at the start of the position.

A short written description (max. 3 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
A teaching portfolio prepared according to the guidelines, i.e., a written description of pedagogical training and teaching merits (Instructions on the JYU Work with us website). Additionally, a short description (max. 2 pages) of the applicant's teaching philosophy and plans related to teaching for the position.
A short description (max. 1 page) of any other merits the applicant wishes to demonstrate for their suitability for the position (please attach this to the field other attachment).
