Tenure track position in Psychology (Associate Professor / Professor)

We are now seeking an associate professor (tenure track professor) or professor in the field of psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The position is located in the Degree Programme in Psychology.

Psychology at Tampere University is located in the Unit of Welfare Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The research lines of the psychology program focus on 1) social cognition and emotions, 2) developmental psychology, 3) occupational psychology, 4) environment and well-being, 5) clinical psychology, and 6) neuropsychology and rehabilitation. 

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic who will

• Pursue and lead high-quality and diverse scientific research
• Develop the field of psychology as a whole and follow scientific development in their own field
• Actively seek research funding and other external funding
• Contribute to societal impact and international networking and collaboration
• Give research-based teaching and contribute to curriculum development and student supervision at the levels of the degree program and doctoral program of psychology and logopaedics
• Contribute to planning and administrative tasks of the degree program and doctoral program of psychology and logopaedics

Requirements

Associate Professor (tenure track professor)

• Applicable doctoral degree in psychology
• Track record of international and independent scholarly activity
• Teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
• Ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding

Professor

• Applicable doctoral degree in psychology
• High-level scholarly expertise
• Experience of leading scientific research
• Ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
• Track record of winning external research funding
• Track record of international and independent scholarly activity

This position requires fluency in Finnish and English.

The most important criteria for the position are international, high-quality research activity and versatile teaching activity. In addition, the following will be considered an advantage:

We offer

Initial appointment as an associate professor is for five years and, subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured member of the faculty at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to a permanent faculty position. Should the position be filled as a full professor, it is a permanent position from the start. A trial period of six months applies to all of our new employees.

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The initial level of the post is 7 for Associate Professor, and 8-9 for Professor. In addition, a performance-related component is paid. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
