Knowledge Field: Biochemistry
Project FAPESP Nº: 2017/22501-2
Project Title: Chemistry and Biology of Bioluminescence of Fungi, Millipede and Marine Organisms
Occupation Field: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Bioluminescence
Unit/Institution: Instituto de Química/Universidade de São Paulo (IQ-USP)
Number of Positions: 1
Beginning: July 1st, 2019
Project Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Cassius Vinicius Stevani
Summary: The Fungal Bioluminescence Laboratory (LBF) of Chemistry Institute/University of São Paulo (IQ-USP), through the Thematic project of FAPESP "Electronic Chemiexcitation in Biological Systems: Bioluminescence and 'Photochemistry in the Dark'”, offers a Post-doctoral position for foreigner or Brazilian candidates, with PhD degree obtained for a maximum of 6 (six) years. The project aims to identify luciferins, luciferases and auxiliary proteins involved in the mechanism of light emission by fungi, millipede and various marine organisms, including dinoflagellates, tunicates, annelids and fish. The regulation of bioluminescence and cloning of proteins and enzymes will be investigated through classical techniques of molecular biology as well as isolation and identification of proteins.
Requirements: The position is open to highly qualified Brazilians and foreigners. The candidate should preferably have training in the scientific fields of Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology and Biochemistry, adequate CV and scientific knowledge in the research field of the stipend. It is essential that you can read, write and speak English and that you have a proven ability to write scientific articles. The selected candidate will be involved in the planning and execution of research projects and will act in the laboratory administration and co-advisory of undergraduate and graduate students. The professional should be familiar with bibliographic search tools, know how to plan and conduct experiments independently. Among the knowledge and techniques necessary for the development of this project can be cited:
