The Laboratory of Sustainable Mechatronics at the LUT School of Energy Systems is looking for two junior researchers (i.e., doctoral students) to join its interdisciplinary team dedicated to developing innovative mechatronic solutions that advance sustainability. The Laboratory of Sustainable Mechatronics operates under the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

What we are looking for

The person appointed for this position will focus on studying and exploring cutting-edge topics such as energy-efficient machinery control, environmentally friendly manufacturing and design, and smart sensor systems.

The applicants are expected to have a background in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, computational dynamics, or a related field.

The research could deal with

  • designing and optimizing energy-efficient mechanical systems
  • implementing reliable and intelligent control algorithms
  • exploring new sensor technologies for machine and environmental monitoring
  • collaborating with industry partners to integrate sustainable practices

The junior researcher must have a master’s degree (M.Sc. (Tech.) or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., mechatronics, mechanical engineering, or similar) and the ability and motivation to complete the doctoral studies within the normative duration of the studies for the degree. The employment contract can be concluded only if the candidate obtains a right to pursue doctoral studies at LUT University.

Employment relationship and pay

The employment relationship is fixed-term with a six-month trial period. The work will start in summer/autumn (negotiable) with a one-year term that can be extended for another three years, provided that the studies and research have progressed satisfactorily.

The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The typical gross starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately 32 500 euros a year. The job is located in Lahti at LUT’s Lahti campus.

What we offer

In addition to a competitive salary, the wide range of benefits that come with the job include a holiday bonus, generous annual leave, a research incentive scheme with personal rewards for high-quality publications, flexible working hours, occupational health care, a collegial working environment, and continued commitment to your support, learning, training, and development.

Applications

The deadline for applications is 2 June 2024, at 23:59, Finnish local time (UTC +3 h). Please apply by filling out the online form and attaching the following:

  • Your CV
  • Your motivation letter detailing your interest in the role and relevant experience
  • A copy of your academic degree certificate and transcript of records; if the original documents are not in English, Finnish or Swedish, each document must be accompanied by an official certified translation into English or Finnish

Only applications submitted through LUT University’s online application system will be considered.

Suitable candidates will be contacted for an interview.
