Within KU Leuven, the media psychology lab (former school for mass communication research) represents a pioneering institution for media effects research. The labs ultimate intent is to inspire key players and stakeholders in society as well as individuals and their families with robust evidence on both adverse and beneficial effects of media and with a sound understanding of how media can be employed to achieve goals of social relevance. Issues studied in recent years include alcohol and drug abuse, sexuality and sexism, mental health, body image, sustainability and sleep. Within this context, Prof. Beullens conducts research on the opportunities and risks of digital media use, media psychology and health communication and is looking for a researcher who will assist in the final stage of a research project conducted for Kom op tegen Kanker.

Responsibilities

The researcher will be working on a research project funded by Kom op tegen Kanker (see: https://soc.kuleuven.be/smc/smokefree ). 
In this project an active involvement intervention was developed to prevent adolescents from smoking and vaping uptake. This intervention is conducted in Flemish schools. All data have been collected in 2023 (https://soc.kuleuven.be/smc/smokefree/study_record_isrctn79597008_2024-05-21-1.pdf ). We are now looking for a researcher who can assist in the further valorization of these results in multiple ways: 
- Reporting of (quantitative and qualitative) results in scientific articles 
- Drafting of report for funder 
- Dissemination and further valorization of results to societal stakeholders 
- General project management and follow up 

Profile

We are looking for a candidate:
- Who loves science communication
- With strong writing skills both for academic and non-academic audiences 
- With excellent data analyses skills (SPSS, R, nvivo…)
- Willing to work with the data collected within this project
- Able to work independently and in teams.  Candidates need to have the social skills necessary to have fruitful collaborations with colleagues and stakeholders 
- With strong organizational and management skills
- Willing to take on a variety of tasks both for the project and in the research unit
- Excellent knowledge of both English and Dutch (both oral and written) is an absolute requirement (please do not apply if you do not meet this criterium)
- Applicants have a master or PhD in communication sciences, or related fields (e.g., psychology). 

Offer

We offer a full time employment in a one-year contract (researcher or postdoc, depending on experience/degree). The starting date of this vacancy is preferably as soon as possible. 
Salary and benefits are in line with the university salary scales and highly competitive according to international standards.
