The S&T Group KU Leuven Kulak is responsible for the formation of Bachelors in Science, with flow-through options to engineering and bioengineering sciences and pharmaceutical sciences. This makes it a very multidisciplinary environment, both in terms of teaching and research.
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a PhD and a promising research record, and with teaching competence in the engineering sciences. You will play a leading role in teaching support to students in the engineering sciences transfer option at Kulak and in various teaching assignments there. Research-wise, you will connect with ongoing research in engineering sciences and applied mathematics/physics. You will continue to work on your research competencies, with a particular focus on collaboration with companies in research and teaching, research valorization and outreach to the region through networking.
Your assignment consists of both teaching, teaching support and research tasks, and requires extensive presence at KU Leuven Kulak.
Your teaching assignment will consist of teaching math, physics and engineering courses in the courses and transfer options of the S&T Group KU Leuven Kulak. This assignment will constitute 50% of your duties and will include providing lectures, exercises, practical sessions and project supervision as a titular, co-titular, substitute or collaborator.
The teaching profile of KU Leuven Kulak requires that you have an interest in educational innovation and teaching quality.
Teaching assignments require an immediate and thorough knowledge of Dutch.
It is expected that you will conduct applied research preferably in line with existing research at Kulak in mathematical modeling and simulation of physical problems (characterization and health monitoring via ultrasonic wave propagation in materials, modeling and analysis of solar winds, simulations of electrical engineering applications, signal analysis and processing, digital twins, etc), in applications of artificial intelligence, in the study of new materials and recycling of materials, or in (bio-)mechanics, biophysics or (bio-)statistics.
In addition, you are expected to coordinate and supervise and liaise with R&D cells of companies in the context of the P&O3 course for2nd year students in the engineering transfer option, and to contribute to the exposure of engineering education and research in the region through participation in information and networking events.
You take initiative for collaboration with other researchers both at KU Leuven Kulak, and at other KU Leuven campuses, as well as internationally.
We offer 80% part-time employment in an interdisciplinary and intellectually challenging, but small-scale environment. KU Leuven Kulak is part of a research-intensive, internationally oriented university that conducts both basic and applied scientific research and strives for international excellence.
You will be appointed as a part-time PhD Assistant for the duration of 3 years, with possibility of extension for a maximum total duration of 6 years. Salary scale 44.
