Do you want to contribute to top quality medical and chemical biology research?

Join our national infrastructure in Chemical Biology as a computational chemist. The position is for one year temporary employment contract.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the leading medical universities in Europe. Through research and education, Karolinska Institutet contributes to improving human health. Each year, the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) is a Swedish Research Council-funded infrastructure that has been in operation since 2010. Initially comprising two nodes at KI and Umeå University, CBCS was expanded in 2022 with the addition of nodes at Lund, Uppsala, Linköping, and Gothenburg Universities.

As an infrastructure for chemical biology at Science for Life Laboratory's Chemical Biology and Genome Engineering platform, CBCS specializes in identifying bioactive small molecules or chemical tools for all fields of life sciences. We offer collaborative services and guidance in assay development, small-molecule screening, and hit to chemical probe optimization. We are also in the process of establishing additional service offerings in small-molecule profiling, including Cell Painting, and screening in primary and complex disease models. To learn more about CBCS, please visit our website at www.CBCS.se.

What we offer

  • An opportunity to work within a state-of-the-art research infrastructure, contributing to high-impact chemical biology and drug discovery projects.
  • Access to advanced resources and collaborative networks across disciplines.
  • A stimulating environment that supports professional growth and encourages innovative research.

Your mission

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers on drug discovery projects.
  • Provide specialized computational chemistry support tailored to project needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative computational methods.

Under the guidance of our senior computational chemist you will provide state of the art computational chemistry methods to a variety of chemical biology projects and perform structure- and ligand based drug design, conformational analysis, and data mining and of course use AI/ML methods when applicable.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Research Infrastructure Specialist the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise and been awarded a doctorate or a qualification from a foreign higher education institution deemed equivalent to a Swedish degree of doctor. The applicant must also have demonstrated technological and methodological expertise.

Assessment criteria

Required Competencies and Skills

  • Computational Expertise: Proficiency in structure- and ligand-based design, conformational analysis, and data mining. Familiarity with AI/ML, AlphaFold and molecular dynamics is a plus.
  • Programming Skills: Strong coding abilities in Python, R, and experience with Unix-like operating systems (e.g., Linux). Knowledge of databases and SQL is advantageous.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Qualifications

  • Required: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
