Lille Economics and Management (LEM, CNRS UMR 9221) and IÉSEG School of Management invite applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position in Operations Research / Operations Management at its Paris campus.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The primary objective of the project is to develop optimization algorithms, along with a decision support system, to identify cost-effective as well as environmentally friendly strategies to improve the availability of medical equipment spare parts for maintenance at hospitals. The motivation for this research stems from the need to reconcile conflicting objectives (medical service availability, economic impacts, and environmental concerns) in the context of healthcare systems in France.

The selected candidate will be working under the supervision of Prof. Majid Eskandarpour, Prof. Ronald McGarvey and Prof. Stefan Creemers. The selected Ph.D. candidate will be part of the IÉSEG Operations Management department (click here for more information).

ABOUT LILLE ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT (LEM)

LEM is a research unit associating the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), the University of Lille and IÉSEG School of Management.

LEM comprises about 150 researchers and 100 doctoral students in economics and management.

LEM is a young, internationally oriented and dynamic laboratory with a strong scientific ambition.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in operations research, operations management, industrial engineering, supply chain management, applied economics, or a related field;

Ability to teach undergraduate-level courses in English;

Solid background in applied optimization (mixed-integer linear programming) is required, familiarity with multi-objective optimization and/or artificial intelligence methods are preferred

Proficiency with programming languages and software packages such as CPLEX, Gurobi, GAMS, Python, C++, etc.;

Strong potential to publish in AJG category 4 journals (e.g., European Journal of Operational Research);

A passion for research and ability to work independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The selected applicant is expected to begin his/her assignment in September 2024. Gross salary will be competitive with other European research and academic institutions (2250€/month). The Ph.D. student will be based in Paris (on the site of IÉSEG School of Management) and will be required to enroll in the Ph.D. program at the University of Lille. The Ph.D. student will be offered the means and support necessary to engage in research projects with strong potential to get published in international, peer-refereed scholarly journals.
