Job description

YOUR TASKS

  • The research group “Consumer Behavior” of the department Marketing, Innovation and Organization is looking for a motivated doctoral researcher to conduct research on the effects of the Nutri-Score on consumer choices. The project focuses on the Nutri-Score, the front-of-pack nutrition label considered as most promising to stimulate healthy food choices in the grocery store. We expect the Nutri-Score to work, but possibly in different ways for different people at different moments. The goal of this project is to develop research on whether, why and for whom the Nutri-Score works. You will be supervised for this project by the professors Iris Vermeir (UGent) and Maggie Geuens (UGent) and the post-doc Eva Heeremans (UGent). Your task largely consists of carrying out the above mentioned research, but you will also assist in teaching activities, supervision of master theses and service to the research group (e.g., activities concerning the consumer lab).
  • You will also get the opportunity to participate in international conferences and to engage in an international research stay for the purpose of your research activities.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you an appointment for one year, which will be extended with three additional years, on the condition that you receive a positive evaluation for the first year.
  • A dynamic research group with international expertise in consumer behavior that will supervise you in this project.
  • A creative environment in a research group and department consisting of several doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers and supervisors who will assist you in the data collection and scientific tasks.
  • We value your development and offer opportunities to attend field-specific courses and seminars.
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3. More information about our salary scales.
  • All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 38 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, etc. A complete overview of all our fringe benefits (in Dutch).
  • Your appointment will start on 2 September 2024 at the earliest.

Job profile

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a degree of Master of Science in Business Economics, Business Administration, Business Engineering, Communication Sciences, Sociology or an equivalent degree.
  • You are interested in academic research in consumer behavior and are eager to start a four- year doctoral trajectory. Knowledge or experience in consumer behavior research is an added value.
  • You have knowledge on research methods.
  • You show initiative, can work independently, but also enjoy working in a team.
  • You are willing to conduct your research from Ghent, but also to travel abroad regularly for your research.
  • Scientific speaking and writing skills in Dutch and English are essential.
