YOUR TASKS

The overall objective of IMPROCHARES is to analyze how we can maximize the flexibility offered from fast charging sites to the DSO and/or DSO facilitating the balancing of the grid at the one hand and increase local hosting capacity at the other hand. A detailed assessment on how the grid can be used as efficiently as possible under different conditions, which storage technology or combination of different storage technologies (hybrid storage) as a function of the local situation, the local needs and expectations of the end user. Thereto, algorithms has to be developed to profile the flexibility so that it can be guaranteed and offered to the grid.  In the end, the aim is to leverage every asset in the chain, from on-site assets to the grid, to their maximum capacity at all times. Main objectives:

  • Support and accelerate the electrification of the transport sector,
  • Avoid expensive investments in the grid by the relevant network operators,
  • Leverage assets embedded in the distribution grid to balance the electricity system and provide the necessary system services.

Research Outcomes/Tasks:

  • Analysis on how fast chargers co-located with renewable generation and storage impact the grid.
  • Assess the limits of fast charging while remaining within the operational limitations of the grid including the feasibility of grid balancing purposes.
  • Develop advanced forecasting and analysis algorithms that dynamically are able to define the flexibility that can be offered in system services to the network operator.
  • Develop grid models to system operators as input for further grid capacity allocation evolutions.
