Postdoctoral Research Associate – Neutrino Physics

The Neutrino Group at ETH Zurich invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Positions. The successful candidates will make substantial contributions to the T2K and the HyperKamiokande (Hyper-K) neutrino oscillation experiments in Japan.

The successful candidate will be offered a 2-year position. The position is open right away.

Project background

Our group is deeply engaged in neutrino physics analyses using state-of-the-art techniques such as artificial intelligence. We are developing new technlogies for future neutrino experiments, that include high-resolution imaging photosensors and additive manufacturing of organic scintillator detectors. The group is involved in the operation and the construction of large particle physics experiments.

Job description

The selected candidates are expected to significantly contribute to the physics analysis at the upgraded T2K near detector (ND280) using deep learning methods that the group is currently developing. They will also be involved in the simulation and performance studies of the Hyper-K magnetised near detector as well as detector R&D, studying the impact of future possible upgrades. In addition, they will have the opportunity to be involved in the Hyper-K experiment by also joining the upcoming activities at CERN related to the assembly and testing of the underwater vessel equipment. These roles necessitate a readiness for international travel and the flexibility to attend meetings outside of regular working hours, including online engagements.

The selected candidate will also engage in weekly teaching activities within the bachelor’s and master’s programs at ETH Zurich.

Profile

We are seeking for two outstanding and highly motivated physicists who are nearing completion of, or have recently obtained, a PhD in experimental particle physics. Candidates should exhibit

  • ability to work effectively in collaborative settings
  • show a strong willingness to participate in a wide range of research activities, including hardware R&D, construction and physics analyses
