The Laboratory of Combustion, Acoustics, and Flow Physics (CAPS) in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering invites applications for a Post-doctoral position on the control of hydrogen/air flames with plasma.
Using gas turbines burning green hydrogen is one of the promising strategies for compensating the intermittency of renewable sources in future sustainable energy networks. It is thus crucial to develop combustors which can safely and cleanly burn hydrogen. The project aims at investigating the combustion physics of hydrogen fired sequential combustors at high pressure and at developing plasma technologies for controlling the flames.
This experimental research work will be performed on a lab-scale, high-pressure test facility into which a hydrogen sequential combustor can be inserted. Laser-based optical diagnostics and plasma emission spectroscopy will be used to experimentally characterize the effects of repetitively pulsed nanosecond discharges on the autoignition of mixtures of hydrogen and hot vitiated air. The research outcome will be published in specialized and broad-audience journals.
You are expected to have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering with excellent track records in experimental combustion and an experience with plasma-assisted combustion.
We are looking for highly motivated, committed, and creative individuals, able to work in a team and with excellent communication skills. Working in a top-level research environment with advanced laboratory infrastructure, you will have a unique opportunity to develop your research abilities.
