The University of Turku is looking for an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) in ICT with specialization in Cyber Security Engineering.

We seek applicants with competences and demonstrated strong academic ability in cyber security technologies for networked systems, including applying cyber security engineering in specific domains and the application of artificial intelligence in cyber security technologies.

This tenure track position is placed in the university’s Faculty of Technology in the Department of Computing’s Cyber Security Engineering unit. In addition to delivering a leading Cyber Security Engineering Master's Programme nationally, we are the only university in Finland that is part of the EIT Digital Master School in Cyber Security double degree programme with leading European universities in the field.

Who we are looking for

Our cyber security engineering research covers all abstraction levels of networked systems from IoT to global internetworking, and considers key application domains such as e-health, autonomous systems and AI, and smart cities and environments. We are interested in candidates whose research and teaching competence aligns with and complements the current strengths of the Cyber Security Engineering unit. The person selected for the position can thus both conduct research within the group's existing research areas and initiate new research directions considered strategically relevant to the unit. We also appreciate experience in private sector R&D activities in the field of cyber security.

We consider applicants’ merits broadly and value, for example, broad academic, professional, and societal networks; societal impact and outreach activities; experience in technology transfer; industrial and entrepreneurial experience; and multidisciplinary collaboration. Teaching is an important part of the position, we value teaching experience and pedagogical studies.

The successful applicant may be appointed to a fixed-term associate or assistant professorship (tenure track) depending on their previous academic merits:

  • For the position of Assistant Professor, we seek proactive researchers and teachers beyond their post doc phase yet still at their early academic career, and who already have a proven track record of scientific research.
  • For the position of Associate Professor, we emphasize an international track record of scientific research, teaching experience and societal influence. In addition to these, we value a track record of acquiring external research funding and business collaboration.
