About us...

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg. We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine – in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and their contributing factors.

The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary and together we contribute to science and society.

  Your Role...

Area: the applicant will be an employee at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), a highly interdisciplinary research centre, which integrates experimental and computational biology approaches in order to understand principal mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and to develop new tools in diagnosis and therapy. Particularly, the applicant will work at the Aquatic Platform within the LCSB, which operates as a facility that uses zebrafish as an in vivo disease model. This vertebrate model allows researchers to gain insights into the aetiology and progression of diseases, and to perform drug screens to identify small molecules that could potentially be used for the treatment of such diseases.

Description: you will assist in the daily maintenance and caretaking activities of zebrafish in the aquatic facility at the LCSB by performing husbandry duties to ensure animal welfare. Also, the animal care technician will contribute to the organization of the facility and to the maintenance of a safe and clean facility environment. The working schedule requires that the animal care technician works from Monday to Thursday, on weekends (according to internal planning), and on legal holidays (according to official calendar and internal planning).

More specifically your tasks will include:

  • Performance of animal caretaking daily duties, e.g. feeding, controlling water parameters, collection and sorting of embryos, health monitoring, among others
  • Ensuring enrichment and animal welfare
  • Set mating cages (upon request of the users)
  • Perform supporting tasks for the facility/laboratory according to guidelines and instructions
  • Ordering consumables and maintaining stocks
  • Maintenance of a clean, organized facility environment
  • Follow and comply with safety regulations and legislation
  • Keep a record of the duties in a well-organized lab notebook
  • Participation in animal welfare body meetings and monthly technical meetings
  • Participation in continuous training seminars, webinars, workshops

  What we expect from you…

  • A Bachelor or technical degree in biology, marine biology, veterinary or similar
  • Working experience with animals, particularly fish species, is essential
  • Owning a certificate for working with laboratory animals (Function C or A according to the European Directive) is required
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of either German, French, or Luxemburgish will be considered as an advantage

Here’s what awaits you at the LCSB...

  • Excellent work environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, laboratory and administrative support
  • Truly connected. We work together with hospitals and research institutes on a national and international level as well as industrial partners. Connection between science and society is very important to us. From our school lab – the Scienteens Lab – to the different outreach activities and collaborative partnerships with patient associations, we love to listen to society’s needs and share our passion for science
  • Be part of a multicultural team. At the LCSB we have more than 50 nationalities. Throughout the year, we organise team-building events, networking activities and more
